Just recently, we've had a spate of proposal fever, if I could coin the term. Both Grace and I have been involved in the elaborate proposal plans of some of our best friends. Keeping secrets within our group of friends was really hard, especially since each couple didn't know that the other couple was also going to propose!
The first plan was hatched more than 2 months ago by Ronnie, while Ivy was abroad in USA. Together with Grace and I, we visited a number of diamond shops before settling on a ring sold by a suave salesman who scoffed at the traditional 4 C's of diamonds. Instead, he preached about his new-fangled gizmo - the sparkle-o-meter that measures the shine from diamonds. GRACE: I think the guys know more about these diamonds than us girls! Of course they have to, it's a lot of investment! Anyway... Now, I must confess to the public that I told a lie... for Ronnie. The Putrajaya Cruise prize that I won, wasn't for real. GRACE: Everyone really thought it was real and congratulated us via email, phone etc! Frankly I thought jumping in the garden was a bit overdoing it, but hey it's Alex. Our friends are used to these kind of things. The plan was to help Ronnie get all our friends together on a boat so that he could perform his ritual. That was a great success, as no one else on the cruise knew about it.
One thing I learnt about Ronnie recently, is that he is quite a dedicated guy indeed - imagine... he spent a few nights learning and making fortune cookies so that he could hide the ring inside! How many guys would go to that extent? More photos of Ronnie & Ivy's cruise are up on Facebook.
Baking the ring with the help of Ammie (Ronnie's sister) who is studying hospitality in Taylor's College. Check out that uniform!
On the cruise!
Hmm... what should I say?
One day before Ronnie unveiled his plans, Grace and I were tasked with yet another secret! Warren was going to propose to Amy on board a helicopter! We were roped in to take photos and video the event. It was a fabulous sight from the air! GRACE: Yeah it's really amazing to see things from a different perspective, this was my first helicopter ride! Before we left, it rained heavily with thunderstorm and so we had to wait for about 45 mins before the sky cleared up. Thank God for that!
This was also a well thought out plan, which took Warren lots of research! This was definitely not your regular wedding proposal! Warren and Amy's photos are up on Facebook.
From the air, Warren popped the question...
We also have been uploading some photo montages onto YouTube. Do check them out! Moving backwards a little... Grace and I had the opportunity to be the wedding photographers in Kuching, Sarawak for Francis and Asther - 2 of our dive buddies! They had a great ceremony, but lethal chee muis! The chee muis had LIVE sago worms and they even made poor Mike strip and show his underwear to them... tsk... tsk... One of the highlights of this ceremony was the fact that the rings were brought in via remote control car! GRACE: Their wedding was fun, they had lots of wacky ideas. Francis and Asther really took care of all of us from KL - even brought us to the Cultural Village the next day and for a scrumptious seafood dinner! Photos of Francis and Asther's wedding ceremony are also up on Facebook in 2 albums - here and here.
