A friend of mine started out this blogging idea of getting people to share thoughts from a topic that she will post every week. It's a really interesting concept, and this week's topic is "Taking a Walk". As I pondered on what I could write about this topic, something came to my mind yesterday when I read this verse in the Bible. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. Ecclesiastes 9:10 (New International Version) and in The Message version... Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, For there's neither work to do nor thoughts to think In the company of the dead, where you're most certainly headed. These words really struck a chord in my heart. When I think about this whole idea of taking a walk... well, life is like one big journey to me. We're walking towards certain death. That is one law in life that no one can escape from, no matter what background you come from or what you were brought up to believe. It sounds morbid but I do sorta like to think and talk about death. Because in that process, I learn to live life to the fullest. Whatever your hand finds to do...do it with all your might. What will my life count for, if everything I do is done half heartedly? If at the end of this long 'walk', I discover that I reached the end, but I forgot to enjoy the journey along the way. Whatever I did in life, did it matter in the end? Or is it a long list of trivial stuff that people will forget after a while? If I just read a few verses earlier from that chapter, it says, (in the Message): Relish life with the spouse you love Each and every day of your precarious life. Each day is God's gift. It's all you get in exchange For the hard work of staying alive. Make the most of each one!
